From the opening powhiri through the enormous variety of outstanding performances, forums, workshops and the Paekakariki Festival, the Magdalena Aotearoa International Festival of Women’s Performance has been an inspirational celebration.

The Festival attracted 41 performers and groups from 17 countries, representing a diverse range of styles and themes in theatre, installations and street performances.

International and New Zealand artists held workshops during the mornings, teaching performance techniques. In the afternoons, there were forums with topics ranging from making performance while in exile to the reasons why we create theatre.

The Festival was a unique opportunity to meet and work with women performance artists from all over the world, and strengthen the networks of support and inspiration.
